Do I need a dedicated IP address?

A few possible reasons why one would want an IP address of their own rather than sharing an IP with other customers on the same server would include:

  • the ability to view your web site via an IP address (ex: http://123.45.67.89) instead of your shared IP-based "test URL"
  • the ability to login via anonymous FTP and FTP subaccounts using a username alone rather than having to specify username@domainname
  • to enhance search engine rankings (due to how some search engines work a dedicated IP increases the odds of high rankings)

In addition to the above, some third party services may require a dedicated IP to use their service.

We offer dedicated IP addresses for an additional $2 / month.
